Life duration of a Canon LP-E12 Battery Pack. I have owned a Canon EOS M10 with an LP-E12 battery for 6 months (non-heavy use) and since I got some new replacement batteries just recently, I decided to test them, to be able to compare. The LP-E12 is a battery for the EOS 100D, EOS M, EOS M2, EOS M10, EOS M100 camera. The battery outperforms its specified expected max recording time by six minutes, even though it has been 6 months in use (and might have been able to go even longer).

Number of Possible Still Image Shots and the Maximum Movie Shooting Time (Battery Life) (EOS M10) Canon official statement:
Maximum possible movie shooting time at 23 °C / 73 °F approx. 1 hr. 45 min.
Maximum possible movie shooting time at 0 °C / 32 °F Approx. 1 hr. 40 min.
Number of possible still image shots at 23 °C / 73 °F approx. 255 shots.
Number of possible still image shots at 0 °C / 32 °F approx. 210 shots.

Battery performance decreases at low temperatures. Try warming the battery pack a little by putting it in your pocket, for example, ensuring that the terminals do not touch any metal objects.
Dirty battery terminals reduce battery performance. Try cleaning the terminals with a cotton swab and reinserting the battery pack a few times.
If these measures do not help and the battery pack still runs out of power soon after charging, it has reached the end of its life. Purchase a new battery pack.

How to take care of your battery:
1. Recharge the battery on the day before or on the day it is to be used.
Even during non-use or storage, a charged battery will gradually discharge and lose its power.

2. Polish the terminals with a tissue or dry cloth before charging the battery pack. If the terminals are dirty, for example if there is oil from your skin on the terminals, this may result in poor contact and the battery pack may not charge fully.

3. After recharging the battery, detach it and unplug the charger from the power outlet.

4. When not using the camera, remove the battery.
If the battery is left in the camera for a prolonged period, a small amount of power current is released, resulting in excess discharge and shorter battery life. Store the battery with the protective cover attached. Storing the battery after it is fully charged can lower the battery's performance.

5. If you have not used the battery pack for an extended period of time, or if you are using the battery pack for the first time, it may not be fully charged. Fully charge the battery pack and then discharge it completely in the camera several times to bring the battery pack capacity to normal.

6. If the battery becomes exhausted quickly even after being fully charged, the battery has worn out.
The battery's condition can be checked with this camera. Please refer to the instruction manual of this camera for details on how to check the battery condition.
